Tonglen

Tonglen (Taking and Sending)

Offered annually; please check retreat calendar for schedule.

This Mahayana practice is designed to help cultivate Bodhicitta. A meditation brought to Tibet by the great Indian master Atisha in the eleventh century, tonglen involves adopting the attitude that we might take on the suffering of other beings while at the same time sending out all our virtue, health, and happiness to those beings. In this way, the practice helps practitioners reverse the usual tendency to cling to what we want for ourselves and ignore others. Instruction is given at regular annual weekend retreats; please see the schedule of events for information about the next tonglen retreat.
