Ngondro

Ngondro

Full practice instructions are given at the annual Mahamudra Seminar (usually in late May) and at a series of quarterly sessions offered during the year covering one of the four practices.

Historically, Ngondro practices were known as the preliminaries for the Vajrayana. KCC supports Ngondro mainly in their capacity as a component of the Mahamudra Program designed by Kyabje Bokar Rinpoche. Ngondro involves four practices, described by KCC’s founder, Kalu Rinpoche, this way:

  • Refuge and prostration. To develop their devotion and sense of taking refuge in the Three Jewels, and to develop bodhicitta—the enlightened or altruistic attitude of benefitting others which is based on love and compassion for all beings;

  • Vajrasattva. To purify themselves of negative factors and obscurations;

  • Mandala offering. To accumulate merit and deepen their awareness; and

  • Guru Yoga. To open themselves to the blessing of the lineage.
